UniBRAIN is a Pan-African initiative of the African Union Commission supported by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Danida). The development objective of UniBRAIN is for innovation and entrepreneurship derived jobs within the agricultural sector to be created through partnerships between universities, research institutions and the private sector. UniBRAIN promotes innovation by supporting start-up, diversification and up-scaling of commercial ventures; It supports graduate training in entrepreneurial and business skills and advances graduate research –based knowledge that is relevant to the development of African agriculture and agri-business. It pioneers a new approach to promoting agricultural innovation by improving tertiary agribusiness education in Africa. UniBRAIN initiative promotes innovation by improving the flow of technology and knowledge by removing barriers between actors in the value chains. It is the synergy and linkage between the diverse actors that catalyses and drives the innovations. UniBRAIN links university education, research and business in sustainable agriculture, with the following objectives:
- To develop and implement collaborative programmes fostering innovation among universities, research institutions and the private sector.
- To strengthen African agricultural innovation systems, which are expected to deliver the new and improved technologies that are required to improve agricultural productivity
- To develop and implement improved and better contextualized undergraduate and postgraduate agribusiness teaching and learning.
- To facilitate exchange of experiences, resource and knowledge sharing.
